Birthday Books

Updated: Jan 25, 2021

I ordered the following books to spruce up Areli's library for her birthday. Several are from the Folio Society. Looking forward to reading them myself in the years to come.

"A new fully illustrated Folio Society edition of Helen Castor’s She-Wolves: The Women Who Ruled England Before Elizabeth which depicts the lives of four remarkable medieval women: Empress Matilda, Eleanor of Aquitaine, Queen Isabella, Margaret of Anjou. "

An Omelette and a Glass of Wine

"This sparkling collection of Elizabeth David’s articles showcases the work of the woman regarded as the ’best food writer of her time’."

Sophie’s World

"Mysticism, mystery and philosophical wonder leap off every page of Sophie’s World, a book that has moved the consciousness of millions, and now presented in a stunning new Folio edition."

F. SCOTT FITZGERALD Set of 4 Scribner's Hardcover Books

"Henry James’s unabashed look at the workings of the human heart, and the greed and malice which can pull it apart in a tale that still resonates today. A young couple, deeply in love but penniless, embarks upon a scheme to become rich by seducing a wealthy heiress who is terminally ill. But the plans they hatched have run awry, and in ways that they could never have foreseen. This is the first volume in a new series to be published by The Folio Society of Henry James novels."

The Secret Garden by Frances Hodgson Burnet

"The story takes place in Misselthwaite Manor which holds two mysteries: a strange unhappy crying in the night and a walled garden with a door locked and forgotten for ten years. On the day a robin shows Mary where the key lies buried, the magic begins... This Folio edition is illustrated by one of the most accomplished artists of the golden age of children's illustration, Charles Robinson."
